Has anybody bought cases for their Designers? I am concerned about the whopping size of the hardware on the bass drum and floor toms. I'm thinking I might have to add an inch or two to get the clearance that I need.

I would wait until my Designers arrive and just measure around the hardware, but I would like to have the cases here when they arrive.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I use the HARDCASE brand, and those work for me. I have to rotate the floor toms to fit the brackets, but it works.

Ok, I know this is a bit of an old topic....

The cases for my Designers are Humes and Berg Padded Enduro's. The kit's sizes are as follows:

  • bass drum - 22x16
  • mounted tom - 12x10
  • floor tom - 14x14
  • floor tom - 16x16
  • snare - 14x6.5

They're all the standard drum style cases, except the snare (which is a square case - throwoff gets turned to the corner to help protect it). Basically I have to turn the bass drum so one of the spurs is in the corner from the flat spot. The mounted tom fits the same way - with the mounting in the corner of the flat spot. I do the same thing with the floor toms, and they're all nice and snug in their cases. Plus, they all nest within each other (except the square case) for storage.
The only case that I had to order larger than their "standard" size was for the 14" floor tom. I went with a 15" floor tom case in order to fit the leg mounts.

I spent hours measuring the drums and hardware, and on the phone with H&B to make sure that I got the right cases the first time. I found out after the fact that I should have ordered the case for the 14" tom in the same depth as the case for the 16" tom case so it would fit the legs as well. As it is, I have to take the legs off the 14" to get it to fit in the case (legs go in a spare stick bag I have...).

Thanks man! I figure since Shane already knows my drums, he'd be the perfect choice for me to turn to if I need anything for them Cool
