Hi everyone. My first post here.
I'm wondering if anyone has ever had the opportunity to play a 20x18 bass drum. Does the extra length give it more punch? What type of music would you propose to be it's best application? Any distinct advantages over a 20x16 or 22x16?
Thanks a lot.

Hey Nimbus,
Welcome!!
I have played a 20x14, 20x12, 20x8, 20x18, 20x16, and 20x20.
The easiest, most effective size that I have found, and this is just my opinion, take it for what is worth, is 20x16. Easier to control for me. 20x18's work real well if their is some significant muffling.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Shane. Currently, I'm looking to move to the Sonor S class. The 20 they offer is 17.5" which, knowing Sonor, works well for them, and, hopefully, for me too.

I have been asking the same question. A friend of mine in Vermont played with a 20x16" kick for years. It has a chest-thump to it with a pillow inside. I intend to get a pair of 20x17 or 20x18 kicks (custom) when I get a new kit this year.

I use a superkick 1, and evans pillow.

There is something that just sounds more punchy and controlled about a 20" kick.
