I have talked with other "5-star" drum shops. The vast majority of them were clueless about the product they sold. I began to wonder if any of them were actually drummers. A couple other shops were pretty good, but they always pushed high end drums.

This place not only has videos, but quick, concise no-nonsense answers. Not once was I met with "um...ahh....welll..." there was always information. A good 5 star shop has to know more than just superficial catalog-type information. They have to be able to convey what, why and how.

I am capping my shell pack about $3K. I just don't feel I need to spend more.

Here are the final contenders (no order):
- Pearl session SMX- I like burst green or marine blue fade
- DDRUM diode-Red
- Yamaha oak custom- blue ridge all the way.

I will audition all of the above this August. If the yamaha oak wins, I will have to order yamaha tom arms to replace my pearl tom arms, no big deal.

Drums I am after:
Rack: 8,10,12,14
Floor: 16,18
Kick: 22x17 or 22x18

All the above can be had under $3K for the shells. It all comes down to which of the above sounds the best to me.

August can't get here fast enough!

Thanks man!!!
Bad news on the Blue Ridge-it has been discontinued! They are doing Red, Musashi Black, Silver Sparkle, and York Honey amber.

Say it ain't so!!!! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Well, I'll have a look at red and honey. Black or silver is out.

Akira Jimbo's black kit looked nice, but I am sick of black kits. zzzz. And with a woodgrain like oak, a sparkle finish covering it is a crime against nature.

Judging from photos, the york honey amber highlights the grain much better than red does. At this point, I am leaning to that color.

Both red and black highlight the grain well. Obviously, not as much as the amber, however, the red is the one that impresses me the most.

I have not yet even seen a decent pic of the red. The teensy pics I have gleaned from the web appear to be fairly opaque to the grain.

Another thing I shall have to see in person, because I noticed that even the best photos don't quite do some finishes justice.

I did see *one* pic that didn't look opaque, but again- not exactly a close up. Another thing to look forward to.

Also, I will be curious as to which is louder/projects better: oak or the diode acrylic.

The grain does pop right out on the red. I have seen it in person. It's awesome. The acrylic is definitely louder, but not by much.
