Sessions from 2001 to the current kits share the following with a comparable masters (let's say MRX, since both are 6-ply maple):
- OPtimounts
- Same lug design
- Rubber gasket on bass spurs
- Maple shells
- Comes with a maple shell snare
The differences to my knowledge are:
- 8 lug on bass drums
- Superhoop II rims
- Comes with tom arms (I believe; I know masters do not)
- Pearl drumheads (stock)
- A slightly significant difference in price
and I think they also come with a Grade B maple instead of Grade A (Grade A is cosmetically superior to grade B but there will be no noticeable sound difference at all).
The drum shop guys will know more about this than I do, but I'm pretty sure the above mostly holds true. I went masters over sessions because I prefer Birch (no longer an issue with the new birch sessions that are coming out), because I like die-cast hoops (the drum shop would happily hook you up with some if you requested), and I liked being able to pick my own finish. Obviously the sound was the biggest factor, and it should be for you too. Which brings me to my next point: Buy drums because they sound like what you want them to sound like, not because they sound like some heavily EQ'd drum set on your favorite record or whatever. I got the chance to tinker with an OCDP for about 30 minutes in a Guitar Center (irony?) and thought my masters sounded far superior. Just my subjective opinion, but I think they're "fad" drums, whereas a company like pearl or yamaha has been around for a long time and really perfected their craft.
At any rate, rant over. FYI, the drummer from finch uses drums in the following sizes:
22x22 kick
7x12 tom
14x16 floor tom
16x18 floor tom
with a 7x14 snare. You can't get a 22x22 kick from pearl, largest depth is 22x18 which will be fine. The other sizes are available in masters (you'd want an MRX to "match" the OCDP shell composition, but please keep in mind what I said earlier about buying what you want and not what another drummer uses.) Drop by the shop, someone will steer you in the right direction.

p.s. Bitchin' D.C. clinic last night, thanks for putting that on
