NEWS FROM NAMM-NEW SILLY SPECIALS!

What a blast! Chris and Shane just returned from the NAMM show in Anaheim California, full of overwhelming info and gear lust! We also ordered heavily on new stuff, so we have some special CLOSEOUT deals available-as well as some great used gear! Here’s the scoop!

RMV
These drums are here-and they are hot, hot, HOT!!! 4 kits landed here on Christmas eve, and two of them are gone. They are that unbelievable! I personally find them to be the best kept industry secret. They are all completely hand made in Brazil, even the heads! The shells are made of Brazilian Maple, called Bapeva. It is 30% denser than North American Maple, giving the drums incredible cut and low end. The lug casings and mounts are made of a composite fiber material that is more lightweight and stronger than die cast. Ask Shane to do the “Hammerclaw” test. He assaults a bass drum claw with a hammer, and nope, they don’t break.
Think about it-high end drums for around $800. Unreal. Grab one off the floor, or get your orders in, they are going up in price effective March 1st, and lead time is about 8 weeks.

YAMAHA
The buzz this year was the brand new DTXPLORER electronic drum set. This kit is a smash. Street price is $850-making it the lowest priced electronic kit from a name brand manufacturer. It’s a 5 piece setup that includes even the bass drum pedal! The sounds are all new, based on the Yamaha Motif chipset, and I couldn’t stop playing it. It’s that good!
Also-the Oak Custom has two new GLOSS finishes, red, and black. They are lustrous see through grain finishes, and they are hot. The Oak Custom MATTE finishes have been discontinued, and we ordered a TON of them on closeout, and we’ll pass the savings along. See below for more.
Yamaha also debuted new revised signature snare drums from Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, David Garibaldi, and Manu Katche. Gorgeous.

SONOR
ALL NEW FORCE SERIES!!!
That’s right-the new Force 2005 is an all birch shell-the 3005 all maple! New finishes, new badges, just incredible! They are creating some incredible drums for low cost. We thought the 2003 and 3003 were knockouts-but these are just over the top.

DW
Key word here: Private Reserve Quilted Maple! These are beautiful! Also-new finish ply finishes-Champagne Broken Glass, Midnight Glass, and Red and Emerald onyx. They are also doing what is called a “hard satin” finish-a lacquered finish sanded down to a satin gleam. More durable and sonically superior. We have one in a “tiger ash” exotic veneer about to hit production. Can’t wait!
They also introduced the “Air seat.” In a nut shell, it’s a gas seat like the roc-n-soc, but with four legs and a wider seat base. It is the most comfortable seat I have ever sat on. It’s AWESOME! Also-we have a Neil Peart RED SPARKLE kit on the way!

SPAUN
Hybrid kits! Shells comprised of Maple and acrylic shells. I have to say-I was VERY apprehensive about this concept, but after hitting the floor kit, we ordered one. 8 weeks away! Also-they had a lighted acrylic snare. That’s right! A coiled bulb inserted into a snare drum. We bought that too! It will be here in about 2 weeks. If you want flash-get a kit like that! They can do it!
GMS

The “Wee Bop” kit. It’s an affordable CL series kit. A 16” bass drum, 10” rack, and a 13” floor tom. They sound AWESOME! Rob and Tony also informed us about the “SE Lite” snare. It’s a wrapped or satin finish with a more inexpensive throwoff to keep the cost down. The prices will be lower-not sure just yet.
ROLAND

The V STAGE!!!!
A completely redesigned kit. The new (baby TD-20) TD-12 brain, The new (baby MDS-20) MDS-12 rack, all stereo pads, and a bigger snare drum. This kit has the same sounds as the TD-20, and it just feels great. Get your orders in NOW. The first shipment lands in April, and they are already starting to sell.
They also upgraded the super popular V Compact to a PD-80 mesh snare pad. It’s now a 5 piece kit with a MESH snare pad, and it will sell for $995! Super cool!
We have also been identified the V DRUMS SPECIALTY SHOP FOR NEW ENGLAND! This is an incredible honor for us. What this means for you is that you are now able to come to us as your ROLAND CUSTOM SHOP!! YES! Have you ever tried to order a Roland kit piece by piece only to find that the price is insanely higher than if you bought a prepackaged kit? Now it’s not! PEARL
Pearl knocked everybody out last year with the all new Session, Exports, and the new Hardware. Everybody expected a quiet year from them, but that was not the case! The all new REFERENCE SERIES is one of the greatest concepts in the history of drums. They have applied a theory of mixed woods and bearing edges and have produced one of the finest sounding kits ever. You’ve got to hear it to believe it. Also new was the Joey Jordison and Virgil Donati snare drums. They are also doing 20”x22” Bass drums in the Masters series now! Also- 6” toms in the Masterworks. Great stuff from Pearl.

ZILDJIAN

The all new 19” Z Custom Thrash Ride! This will be a hit. They also have A custom MEDIUM weights now, which fit in between the regulars and the projections. It’s a great fit sonically. They also have 13” special dry hats and a 20” Session ride.

SABIAN
The Vault cymbals are here! Think “Sabian A customs” Real shimmery. A total smash. Also, they had the Artisan series rides, which are Turkish style rides. They are awesome!

PAISTE
Thin RUDES! Real musical. Brand new low end cymbals that are great-and now-6” and 8” Dark Energy splashes.
MEINL

Listen! That should be Meinl’s ad campaign. Simple as that. I’m telling you-all these cymbals need is someone to hear them, and they find a home. They are offering one of the most COMPLETE lines of cymbals and percussion, and we have a ton of the new Soundcasters and Byzances on the way.
