From the pictures I have seen, I like th crystal rain, granite sparkle and purple finishes, in that order.

I won't get to try a kit until August, so here is the question:

Magazine reviews don't tell the whole story. In fact, at least one of them seemed vague on a few points. (Almost damning by faint praise I suppose)

I have stated that the SMX maple sessions seem to be what I am after, price/dollar/sound wise. However:

Wheather I go with session, masters or reference, I want that warm, full midrange presence that you get from maple kits like the MMX and DW collectors.

Would anyone classify the reference series as sounding warm and fat like maple?
Question
Thanks..

First off, all sparkles are HEAVILY backordered from Pearl. You're looking at a 4-6 month wait.
To my ears, The RF's have more of a tonal spread than to be classified as a maple sounding kit. They did their homework on it , and it shows. It isn't a maple kit. Check one out when you come in!

Are there any finishes they have caught up with? (IE normal 4-6 week availability?)

They are trying to maintain an inventory of non sparkle finishes at this time for 5-7 day delivery. As your time nears, let me know what sizes and color you would like and I will check stock for you.
