Shawn Boissonneault Shawn starting playing drums at the age of 2, inspired from his drummer father. He got an early start at 10 years old, playing for his church. He won statewide and regional music awards while in high school, which lead him to win a substantial scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. At Berklee, Shawn studied with the world’s best, including Rod Morgenstein, Dave Dicenso, Mike Mangini, and Kenwood Dennard, to name a few. Since graduating in 2003, Shawn has been working throughout the northeast as an accomplished drummer, studio musician, educator, and percussionist. He has played shows with Jason Spooner, Kenya Hall, Adam Waxman, Travis James Humphrey, Joey Vellucci, Tom Acousti, Kilcollins, The Phil Rich Swing Band, Mike Stockbridge, and 84 West, and more. He teaches rock, funk, jazz, blues, reggae, and everything in between. |

Michael Murphy Michael has been teaching percussion in Maine since 1987, offering private drum lessons at Maine middle and high schools and at The Drum Shop since 1988. While at the University of Southen Maine, he studied concert percussion under Nancy Smith and later received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Music from a U-Maine Augusta. Michael studied drumset with the legendary Boston area drum instructor Alan Dawson. Michael believes in a strong foundation in the fundementals is key to success in musical developement. Focus on the drum rudiments and an understanding of musical notation is balance with drum set or concert percussion studies. Michael is equally comfortable teaching a xylophone étude as he is teaching the latest Metallic song. Michael continues to perform throughout Maine and New England. |

Bill Manning Bill holds a BA in Music from the University of Southern Maine. He has been teaching and playing for over 30 years. He has a wide variety of musical experiences ranging from: Pop, Rock, Jazz, Country, Musical Theater and Classical Music. He has experience working with students of all levels from the age of 4 to 60, with a a gift for working with children with special needs. His goal as a teacher is to give his students a well-rounded education in Music. His style of teaching is laid back, patient, methodical. He uses music as a means to instilling the principles of self-discipline, self-confidence, organization, self-motivation, and accountability, as well as the ability to develop creativity and self-expression. |

Stefen Samuels Stefen has been teaching at The Drum Shop since 2001. He has studied with world class players such as Gary Chaffee, Les Harris Jr., Nancy Smith, Dr. Stuart Marrs, and Phil Verrill. Stefen graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1993. He attended the University of Maine at Orono from 1994-95 and graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 1999 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance. |

Phil McGowan Phil McGowan hails from Newburyport, MA. His musical parents suggested an early age that he study with Boston jazz drummer, Les Harris, Jr., who became his mentor. In high school, Phil attended weekend prep-school at New England Conservatory, where he received musical direction David Zoffer and Brooke Sofferman. He was selected to play in the All-State Jazz Band which performed in Symphony Hall, Boston. Phil sat in with various New England jazz legends at the Press Room in Portsmouth, NH and later was hired by the likes of Herb Pomeroy, Ted Casher, Volker Nahrmann, Ed Saindon, Dick Johnson, Greg Abate and Bill Burns, Matt Langley, Don Doane, Bill Street and Brad Terry. Phil holds a degree in Music Performance/Jazz Studies from the University of S. Maine. Phil plays with musicians throughout Northern New England, heads up the the Phil McGowan Trio, and teaches private drum lessons. |

Nate Morrison Drumming came naturally to Nate at a young age. As a baby, he hit everything in sight; pots and pans were his original weapon of choice. Luckily, his folks caught on early and bought him a drumset. He began formal lessons in the fourth grade under Carl Menard and eventually studied with Phil Verrill. Throughout high school, Nate won awards for All-State Drummer, the Division I Rhythm Award, and several state championships in Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, and Marching Band. Since then, he has played for jazz trios to worship groups to top 40 bands. Currently, Nate provides the groove behind the Tony Boffa Band and The Midweek Jazz Quartet. Nate has been teaching privately for over five years now and has taught children as a young as four-years-old and adults in their 60’s. Nate looks forward to working with anyone of any ability or background. |

Mike Dank Mike Dank is an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, he is considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although he has tried not to categorize himself as any one genre. He was once listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s loudest band, and has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. No, Wait, That’s DEEP PURPLE. Mike is just a kid from Cleveland Ohio who since the late 70’s has played original music. He started teaching in 1988. Currently he teaches at The Waynflete School and The Drum Shop. |
We want our students to have the best tools to progress quickly. Every lesson room is clean, comfortable and equipped with two professional drum kits, one for the teacher and one for the student. We offer a waiting area for parents and siblings near the lesson room with complimentary coffee and magazines to make this an enjoyable experience for the whole family.
